Red-crested Cardinal
A red-crested cardinal (Paroaria coronata), tanager family (Thraupidae), outside our local library. I took a picture of it as the kids went inside to check out some new books. They are from South America and, like most birds at low elevation, are introduced to Hawai'i. Too bad, you can almost imagine them as red-white-and-blue "United States Cardinals."
